Scramble Tryfan

The north ridge of Tryfan is one of our best known and most loved mountain routes and whichever way you choose to go up you'll need to use your hands to reach the top. That's scrambling and it marks the line between hiking and mountaineering. This grade one scramble is a great way to step up from your typical hill-walking day but without the need for ropes and other technical equipment. With scrambling there'll often be more exposure and things can go wrong easily by going off-route and entering real climbing territory but that's where MountainXperience come in. We'll guide you safely on a day out you won't forget picking the best route to the top for your ability.

Whether you're doing it for charity, with a group of friends, as a family outing or just for your own pleasure MountainXperience can take the hassle out of planning your adventure and keep you safe on the day. We only work with qualified and experienced mountain guides who are fully insured and hold up-to-date first aid certificates to ensure your safety. We've been exploring Snowdonia's mountains for over a decade and we love nothing more than sharing them with you.

Important information

Thanks for booking our Scramble Tryfan adventure! I'm really excited to meet you and take you on this amazing trip.

This message contains some important information you might find useful.

Where do we need to meet?

Please meet your guide Simon in the large, rectangular lay-by on the A5 opposite Llyn Ogwen.

  • Royal Mail Postcode:
LL57 3LZ

  • Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/FzmCGdsJT9KyQezm8

  • What3Words: ///general.makeup.tooth

If you're not able to park here there are a number of other lay-bys within walking distance and a small pay & display car park at the Ogwen Valley Centre.

There's also a new bus service running from nearby Bethesda.

What time should we be there?

Please aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before the activity start time. This gives your guide the opportunity to check you've got everything you need and for you to ask any questions. Our walks usually start at 8am but check your booking confirmation to confirm.

What do we need to bring with us?

We’re going to be out walking for anywhere between five and eight hours so you’ll need food and water to last you. I recommend a variety of snacks rather than a big lunch and a minimum of one litre of water per person. There are shops in nearby Bethesda for last minute purchases. Please remember to eat something for breakfast. You're going to be working hard and will need that energy boost to start your day.

Please have a look at the weather before setting off and dress accordingly. Better to have an extra fleece and wooly hat in your bag just in case. If it’s a wet day then you’ll need waterproofs too.

Is there a book I could buy that will tell me everything I need to know about climbing my first mountain?

What a great question. Yes there is! And it's written by me :) Visit https://www.howtoclimbamountain.uk to find out more and get your signed copy.

What about toilets?

There are public toilets nearby at the Ogwen Valley Centre. There'll be no other toilet facilities on your mountain day.

Do you have any tips in advance of the day?

We sure do - have a look at these useful blog posts:

What do we do if something goes wrong on the day?

If you’re running late or get lost or need to stop to use the toilet on your way, don’t worry. Please call or WhatsApp Simon on 01248 614120 to keep him updated.

Do we need to let you know about any medical issues?

Yes please. If there's something you think your guide should be aware of please get in touch or have a quiet word on the day.

What if we still have a question?

Please get in touch and ask and I’ll happily help. You can email me at hello@mountainxperience.uk or call or WhatsApp me on 01248 614120.
