Tales from the Necropolis

Duration

1 hour 20 mins

A Labour of Love

We've spent months researching and pouring over old library records and newspapers and compiling our favourite supernatural stories and strange folklore about this remarkable, ancient site.

Through reference, deductive reasoning, and investigation, we've tracked down the exact locations where Liverpool's most famous and historic paranormal events have taken place over the years. You'll learn a fascinating thing or two about the history of the site, so you can impress your friends the next time you take a wander through Liverpool's iconic Canyon of the Dead.

This tour is popular with all age groups and appeals to a broad spectrum of people; groups of friends, families, memorable date nights, visitors to the city, hen & stag do's, team-building, birthday parties, student societies, staff nights out, you name it!

Literally, anyone who is interested in Liverpool's local folklore, the strange and unexplained, the paranormal and supernatural, ghosts, vampires, witches, fairies, or England's rich regional history... will all love this tour!

Highlights

  • Enter the most haunted graveyard in the world.
  • Hear the best TRUE ghost stories in Liverpool, exactly where they took place!
  • Observe Liverpool's awe-inspiring Anglican Cathedral from the most impressive angle- right underneath it!
  • Witness the famously uncanny atmosphere of St. James' Cemetery at/after dusk, where 58,000 of Liverpool's Victorian dead are still buried.
  • Visit Chalybeate Spring- Liverpool's only surviving natural spring - believed to possess magical healing properties since it was discovered some 248 years ago.
  • Marvel at the impressive mausoleum of William Huskisson- the first person ever to be killed by a train- whose shade still haunts his final resting place...
  • Visit the famous, ancient tombs and sepulchres which were broken into in the 1960's/70's by Satanic sorcerers...

Things to remember

  • We have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy on alcohol consumption and don't tolerate bad behaviour. We will lock you in a tomb if we have to!
  • Remember- there's no such thing as bad weather- only inappropriate clothing! The atmosphere in St. James' Cemetery when it's raining is one of our absolute favourites- bring a brolly and/or a mac, and you'll feel like you are in a spooky adventure movie!
  • Please don't wear high heels; comfortable shoes are advised!
  • There are no toilet breaks so please go before you set off!

Wheelchairs

This tour is wheelchair accessible. Please note, however, that there is a smooth- albeit steep- ramp that leads down into and out of the cemetery. It can be a challenge for some to get back up this steep ramp at the end, particularly if the individual in the wheelchair is quite heavy and in a non-electric wheelchair. We mostly follow a flat path, but we occasionally come a few paces off the path onto mostly flat grass.

We've had guests in wheelchairs before and it's been no problem; we are always more than happy to lend a hand wherever it is needed.

For those with mobility issues, this tour is a non-strenuous walk, however, it does involve some walking and time on your feet listening to stories. Wherever possible, we always try to accommodate those with mobility issues or disabilities and make our tours inclusive for everyone. Please let us know when you book if you have any disabilities or mobility issues.

Cancellation Policy

Since we take no deposit, cancellations or rebookings must be made no later than 48 hours before the tour. This gives us some time to refill the slot that you had occupied.

If, however, your cancellation or rebooking is made less than 24 hours after the original booking, we can always process this for you with no problem (this is to cover things like accidental mis-clickings). Simply contact us as soon as you realise you've made a booking mistake, and we'll sort it out :)
