The Monte Rosa Massif 4559 meters
A record mountain, also due to the presence of the highest refuge in Europe, the Queen Margherita Hut, as well as the east wall, the highest and steepest of all the Alps with characteristics similar to the Himalayan ones and the extreme Punta Dufour, with its 4,634 meters high. The Rose is also a visual phenomenon because it is visible from almost all the Valsesian towns, from the “low” to the extreme locations of the valley floor, with wonderful observation points of its elegant and elegant extended profile, which in the serene sunrises illuminated by the sun's rays is tinged with a suggestive pink, a characteristic that would have popularly determined the name, derived instead from the ancient Latin names of the great glaciers. Natural delimitation between Switzerland and Italy, Monte Rosa, although it has as its crown the valleys of the nearby Macugnaga, Gressoney, Ayas and Zermatt and in Switzerland the Mattretal and the Saastal, has its most spectacular and fascinating profile on the Valsesian side because from no other territory is it so large and panoramic. The highest refuge in Europe, the Queen Margherita Hut on Punta Gnifetti, at 4559 m above sea level, owes its name to the historic feat of Queen of Italy Margherita of Savoy who courageously climbed those peaks between 18 and 19 August 1893. The refuge is currently managed by the Italian Alpine Club of Varallo Sesia and is a support point for
mountaineers and scientists.Flight details
