The splendour of Adamello and the Brenta Group
The Adamello Brenta Natural Park is the largest protected area in Trentino and one of the largest in the Alps. Located in western Trentino, with its 620 square kilometers, it includes the Adamello and Brenta mountain groups, separated from the Val Rendena and between the Non, Sole and Giudicarie valleys. Located between 477 and 3558 m above sea level, it is affected by the presence of many lakes, almost all of the lakes in the Park are of glacial origin, that is, they occupy basins excavated by glaciers. Most of them have the typical conformation of “circus lakes”, housed in small circular depressions in the rock, shaped by modest glacial tongues. Sometimes they are barred by moraines, which help to raise the lake threshold. The only exception to the glacial origin is that of Lake Tovel, the largest in the Park, created following the barrier of the valley by a large landslide
