Mont Blanc is a mountain located in the North-Western Alps sector, along the Alpine section of the Graie Alps, on the watershed between the Aosta Valley (Val Veny and Val Ferret in Italy) and Haute-Savoie (Arve Valley in France), in the municipal territories of Courmayeur and Chamonix, which gives its name to the homonymous Massif of Mont Blanc, belonging to the subsection of the Mont Blanc Alps. At 4,808.72 m in height, it is the highest mountain in the Alps, in Italy, in France and in general in Europe, if we exclude the Caucasus, hence its nickname of King of the Alps. It shares, together with Mount Elbrus in the Caucasus, a place among the so-called Seven Summits of the Planet. Mostly of a granite nature, full of spires and ridges, carved by deep valleys through which numerous glaciers flow, it is considered a mountain of great appeal for international mountaineering and, from the point of view of mountaineering historiography, the birth of mountaineering itself coincides with the date of its first ascent, August 8, 1786
