This exhilarating day tour allows you to ride a snowmobile on a glacier. But getting there is half the fun. Departing from Reykjavík, you will be driven to base camp, outfitted in the required gear and briefed on safety; you will board a specially-equipped glacier truck that will take you up the mountain (about 30 minutes). You’ve never seen a vehicle like this! As you power along, the gigantic tyres deflate on the climb up the glacier. On clear days, the view is spectacular, and the ride alone is worth the trip! It will transport you nearly to the top of the glacier, where you will embark on the snowmobile ride.
After jumping out of the monster truck, you find yourself standing on top of a vast ice cap, ready to explore this icy world. Standing on the glacier and taking in its wild, remote beauty is incredible. The Mýrdalsjökull Glacier is Iceland’s fourth largest glacier and covers the volcano Katla.
Your guide will explain how the snowmobile works and how to ride it in a safe and fun manner. After about 1 hour of snowmobiling, you go back down with the glacier truck, about 30 minutes, to base camp.
After the glacier walk, you will be picked up by the bus and do some sightseeing! You will stop by the iconic Skógafoss, a dramatic waterfall and one of the biggest in the country, as it stands 82 feet high and has a drop-off of nearly 200 feet!
After exploring Skógafoss, we drive to Seljalandsfoss, a beautiful waterfall with a thin stream plunging metres below; what makes Seljalandsfoss unique is the ability to walk behind the falls on a footpath. It’s a memorable experience, but it can get a little wet. It’s recommended to bring either a waterproof jacket along if you want to walk behind it.
Then it’s on to Reykjavík, where the tour ends, and you have lovely memories of your south coast snowmobiling adventure!
A valid driver´s license is required. 2 persons share the same snowmobile, single person per vehicle at extra cost.
Solo travelers and groups with odd numbers need to pay a single rider fee at location.
We stop at Hvolsvöllur on the way to the glacier were you can buy lunch or you can pack your own lunch and bring it with you on the tour. We recommend to sit down for lunch before the ride and maybe have a light snack afterwards.
Children 7 years and younger are not permitted on this tour.
Only one child is permitted per adult on this tour.
Operation of this tour depends on conditions on the glacier. Due to sudden and unexpected weather changes the snowmobile ride might be cancelled after tour´s departure from Reykjavík.
