We are partners of “Babylon Berlin”, the TV event of the year. After bestselling author Volker Kutscher has already conquered a million audience with his Gereon Rath thrills, the series now inspires the whole world for the most exciting city of the 1920s. The spectacular TV event was shot at numerous original locations in Berlin, such as Alexanderplatz, the Red Town Hall or the Schöneberg Town Hall.
Join us on ajourney through time to Berlin in the 1920s, to the world of Geron Rath. It is a time when dangerous crooks and meticulous murder commissaries, frivolous night figures and poor swallows, as well as communist and Nazi street fighters shared the Berlin stage . A metropolis in turmoil — everything is undergoing radical change.
Our city tour leads to the filming locations of the series, but also original locations of the time. Learn from us background stories about the filming, the actors and the 1920s in Berlin. We make the reality check between literary and cinematic fiction and the guaranteed history. Where does Gereon Rath eat lunch? Which sights replace the Berlin Police Headquarters, the “Rote Burg”? How did Alexanderplatz become part of the series? What makes the Friedrichstaße so attractive as a filming location for the series? Where were the dead examined and exhibited? In which bars and clubs do the actors of the series dance — and where did the nightlife of the twenties really take place? During the city tour we show excerpts from the series via large monitors in the busas well as fascinating and sometimes never shown film documents and pictures. They show how the twenties really were. Josephine Baker, Marlene Dietrich, Friedrich Ebert, Ernst Gennat appear on the monitors. Swing and Charleston songs invite you to dance. And again and again, the story is contrasted with recordings from the filming of Berlin-Babylon.
On the tour, at least one filming location is visited from the inside. As the tours are subject to availability and usually can only be organized spontaneously, we cannot tell you the place beforehand.
